Coiled Rings

Inspired by the construction methods of the American Shaker boxes, the coiled rings are made from a flat strip of silver or gold which is coiled like a clock spring with the end riveted to the other layers to hold the whole structure together. The strip is tapered over its length which when formed into a coil gives the finished ring, delicately layered edges. Cabachon cut stones are set under the top most layer. Faceted stones up to a limited size can also be set onto the surface, as in the last example, a commission for Nicola with antique-cut diamonds and sapphires together with an aqua marine.
